Manuals are the first things that come to mind in a reply to the questions “what on earth is Information Design?” and “what does a Technical Writer do for a living?”.
Although many modern products claim to be user friendly and self explanatory, a full User Manual is often necessary to explain all the features of the product.
Sometimes, a simple Getting Started guide is helpful, so that the user can get the product up and running straight out of the box.
If a product needs servicing, or has complex interconnection or programming needs, then a Technical Manual may be needed.
Each of these manuals needs to be written in a different style, appropriate to the person that is most likely to read it. Click on the tabs above to see examples of each.
